About RF Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that creates micro-wounds in the skin to stimulate collagen production. This multipurpose treatment leverages the body’s natural healing process to address various skin conditions, such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven texture. To achieve optimal results, a series of multiple treatments is typically recommended.

What it is

Microneedling utilizes a handheld device equipped with extremely sharp, sterile needles to puncture the skin. These micro-wounds trigger the skin’s healing process, leading to increased production of collagen and elastin, two crucial proteins for skin health and vitality. The treatment effectively rejuvenates the skin, improving its overall texture and appearance.

How it Works

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure with minimal downtime. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Preparation: Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and a numbing cream will be applied to ensure comfort during the treatment.

  2. Treatment: During the procedure, you may feel some warmth and a scratching/pulling sensation as the device moves over your skin. The numbing cream helps keep pain to a minimum.

Post-Treatment: Immediately after treatment, your skin will likely be red and swollen, which can last up to a few days. You can return to your normal routine immediately, but it’s important to stay out of the sun until your skin heals.

What to Expect

FAQs

  • Unlike laser treatments, RFMN can be performed on all skin tones, even types V and VI. Most generally healthy people may have the procedure. However, anyone with active wounds, skin lesions, or cold sores, metal allergy, impaired immune system, or recently taking Accutane need further evaluation or delay. And of course, no pregnant or lactating women.

  • Microneedling is generally well-tolerated. While the procedure involves some discomfort, the application of a topical numbing cream significantly reduces any pain. Most clients report only mild sensations during the treatment.

  • The number of microneedling sessions required varies based on individual skin conditions and desired results. Typically, a series of multiple treatments spaced a few weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. During your consultation, our experienced practitioners will assess your skin and develop a personalized treatment plan.

  • You can expect improvements in the first few weeks after your initial treatment:

-1 day after the treatment there could be redness and transient edema (swelling)

-3 days - 1 week post treatment your skin tone will be brighter and more even. If you have oily skin, you will notice significant reduction in sebum production

-1 month post treatment of RFMN you will notice improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. Improvement in pores size, scars, and overall complexion is also significantly noticeable

-1–3-month post RFMN treatment you will notice continuous improvement in wrinkles reduction and skin laxity. Collagen production has improved and you can notice the fullness and plumpness of your skin

These improvements will increase over the next six months, as your body continuously produces new collagen

  • Microneedling stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in long-lasting improvements to the skin’s texture and appearance. With proper skin care and maintenance, the results can be sustained over time.

  • Microneedling involves minimal downtime. Post-treatment redness and swelling typically subside within a few days. You can resume your normal activities immediately, but it’s crucial to avoid sun exposure until your skin has fully healed.

  • Immediately after the treatment you may notice some redness and swelling, similar to that of a sunburn. There may be a bit of pinpoint bleeding and minor bruising.

  • Microneedling is a safe and minimally invasive procedure with a well-established safety profile. Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and mild discomfort in the treated area. These effects are typically mild and resolve on their own.

  • Many clinical studies have shown improvements in skin laxity, acne scarring, and signs of aging with RFMN. Due to these results and the short downtime required, RFMN is quickly becoming the go-to choice for skin rejuvenation. Please contact us for detailed information on the scientific research.

  • Before your microneedling appointment, it’s essential to inform your medical provider about any medications, supplements, or skin conditions you have. Avoid using any harsh skincare products or treatments before the procedure. During your consultation, our practitioners will provide specific pre-treatment instructions to ensure the best results.

  • During the first 2 days following treatment, avoid hot baths, massage, and irritating skin care products or exfoliants

-Keep skin clean to avoid contamination or infection; any mechanical or thermal damage to the area must be avoided

-It is important to keep your skin moisturized after the treatment

-Tiny scabs (of less than 1 mm in diameter) may form 24-72 hours post treatment and may remain for several days. The scabs should not be touched or scratched (even if they itch) and should be allowed to shed naturally

-Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil for 1 week

-For any burning sensation, spritz the treatment area with a diluted vinegar solution (1 tsp white vinegar per 8 ounces water)

-You may have mild swelling for 1-3 days after your treatment. Patients may apply an icepack (NOT direct ice) to the irritated area for 1-2 days in approximately 15-minute sessions 3-4 times per day

-Redness for 1-3 days is common. 12-hours after the procedure you may apply a hydrocortisone cream 3-4 times per day to reduce redness

-Makeup can be applied 24 hours after treatment

-Avoid prolonged sun exposure or use of tanning bed for at least two weeks after the treatment, as the skin that was treated will be more sensitive to the sun after your treatment

-Use a minimum of SPF 30 daily to protect your skin after your treatment
