About RF Microneedling
Radiofrequency microneedling (RFMN) is a non-surgical procedure that combines two technologies commonly used for skin rejuvenation, radiofrequency and skin needling, to smooth and tighten skin, improve fine lines and wrinkles, reduce scars, and improve the overall appearance of the skin with minimal discomfort and little downtime.
What it is
The tip of the RFMN device contains a number of fine needles packed about half an inch wide. When activated, these needles penetrate the skin, where radiofrequency energy is released. After the energy is delivered, the needles cool and then retract. The procedure is then repeated to cover the treatment area. The micro-injury to the skin from the needles and the heat released from the RF both lead to increased collagen production, which tightens skin, and reduces scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and fine lines. This improves the overall texture and appearance of your skin.
How it Works
About an hour prior to the procedure, we will apply topical numbing cream to the treatment area to make the experience most comfortable. The procedure itself takes 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
What to Expect
FAQs
-
Unlike laser treatments, RFMN can be performed on all skin tones, even types V and VI. Most generally healthy people may have the procedure. However, anyone with active wounds, skin lesions, or cold sores, metal allergy, impaired immune system, or recently taking Accutane need further evaluation or delay. And of course, no pregnant or lactating women.
-
A numbing cream will be applied prior to the procedure to limit discomfort. A certain degree of discomfort, redness, and/or irritation during and after treatment is expected.
If any discomfort or irritation persists more than 24-hours, please notify us.
-
It is recommended that you receive 3 treatments one month apart for full effects. After that, yearly treatments are recommended.
-
You can expect improvements in the first few weeks after your initial treatment:
-1 day after the treatment there could be redness and transient edema (swelling)
-3 days - 1 week post treatment your skin tone will be brighter and more even. If you have oily skin, you will notice significant reduction in sebum production
-1 month post treatment of RFMN you will notice improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. Improvement in pores size, scars, and overall complexion is also significantly noticeable
-1–3-month post RFMN treatment you will notice continuous improvement in wrinkles reduction and skin laxity. Collagen production has improved and you can notice the fullness and plumpness of your skin
These improvements will increase over the next six months, as your body continuously produces new collagen
-
In most cases, patients can expect RFMN skin tightening treatments to last over 12 months with proper maintenance and skincare.
-
One of the benefits of RFMN is that there is very little downtime. There may be some redness followed by skin flaking after the procedure.
-
Immediately after the treatment you may notice some redness and swelling, similar to that of a sunburn. There may be a bit of pinpoint bleeding and minor bruising.
-
Rarely, there may be a bruise and very minimal bleeding during the procedure is expected.
-
Many clinical studies have shown improvements in skin laxity, acne scarring, and signs of aging with RFMN. Due to these results and the short downtime required, RFMN is quickly becoming the go-to choice for skin rejuvenation. Please contact us for detailed information on the scientific research.
